Are there right and wrong ways to use affirmations?
Do they need to be spoken out loud?
Do I have to look at myself in a mirror when I say them?
These might sound like silly questions, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s wondering.
I’ve been using affirmations more and more lately, so I want to ensure I’m using them right, and for optimal results.
Affirmations have become a popular topic among bloggers, me included.
While I firmly believe in a find-what-works-for-you approach, there are some best practices for using affirmations.
In this article, I’ll answer the above questions and more. And I offer 110 daily affirmations, listed by area of interest, to help bring about positive changes in your life.

The Benefits, from Different Perspectives
Affirmations are versatile, finding a place in various fields and areas of interest.
In mindfulness and meditation, they enhance positive intentions, cultivate gratitude, and contribute to a more positive and focused mind.
In education, they inspire and motivate.
From a spiritual view, affirmations are a means of attuning yourself to positive energies, manifesting desires, or aligning your thoughts with higher or divine principles.
They can also deepen spiritual connections and help you achieve a heightened sense of purpose.
From a scientific approach, affirmations are shown to increase certain neural pathways in the brain when repeated daily. They have the power to basically rewire your brain.
Affirmations help fosters a more positive mindset, regulate emotions, and can lead to improved performance in various tasks.
Psychologists use them with their clients to challenge and replace negative thoughts. In doing so, they can help cope with stress, reduce anxiety, and lead to a more resilient mindset.
Regardless of your perspective and approach to affirmations, the key is to be sincere in what you want.
Your affirmations should be authentic and speak to your higher good. And it helps to be forward thinking, rather than focused on the past.
Choosing the Right Ones for You
The affirmations provided below can be used as desired based on the area of your life you are focusing on.
Maybe you want to attract more money into your life? Or improve your relationships?
You may be interested in building confidence & self-esteem, reducing stress, or unlocking your inner creativity.
Or perhaps just simply enhancing your overall mental well-being in general.
For tangible results, you’ll have more success if you focus on one or two areas at a time.
If you are looking for a maintenance approach or overall well-being, consider selecting one or two affirmations from each category.
Make sure you choose affirmations that align with changes you want to make in your life, achievable goals you’ve set for yourself, and your personal values and desires.
Using Them for Maximum Results
Once you’ve selected your affirmations, write them down. Perhaps on sticky notes or at the top of your daily journal.
(Shameless plug: we sell lined notebooks with these affirmations already written in them, one at the top of each page. Find them in our bookstore.)
You can also print them from your device, but I’d recommend writing them by hand. It’s more deliberate and thoughtful. Further, it can help form a more personal connection with your chosen affirmations. It can reinforce the positive message. And, it increases your ability to remember it so it can be easily repeated.
Place the affirmations where you’ll see them and be reminded to use them every day. My favourite affirmations are taped to my bedroom closet door.
Saying your affirmations out loud enables you to hear the message, creating a stronger impact.
Though, it’s a personal preference and you don’t have to say them out loud.
You may be more comfortable saying affirmations in your head. Or you may live with other people and don’t need them hearing your self-improvement efforts.
You may find it impactful to say your affirmations out loud first thing in the morning if you find a moment alone. And then repeat them silently throughout the day, as you need them. Though, once a day may be enough for you.
It also doesn’t matter where you say your affirmations. It can be in the comfort of your bedroom, in the shower, at work, or in the car. If you choose to say them on the bus maybe just think them in your head?
And no, you don’t have to be looking at yourself in a mirror. Although if that helps, go right head.
It’s more about the feeling you exude as you say the affirmation. Say it like you believe it with your whole heart.
Visualize yourself living the affirmation. And feel the emotions associated with achieving your goals.
It’s okay if you don’t believe what you are saying just yet. If you use an affirmation daily, eventually your brain will do it’s thing and you will start to believe it.
That’s the key to success with affirmations: regular repetition. You must repeat them, ideally daily, for them to work.
Remember, personal change takes time so be patient and persistent.
